Lovebirds needle felting pack with video tutorial
The lovebirds needle felting pack contains the materials needed to make two very colourful lovebirds with poseable feet.
The pack comes with a detailed instructional video tutorial that has been broken down into easy to follow lessons so you can follow along at your own pace.
The video tutorial can be found on a passcode protected page on my website which you can find by heading to the 'tutorials for kits' page in the header menu.
The passcode will be provided to you in your felting pack along with a template sheet to guide you with the shapes and sizes.
➡️ building up the core shape of the bird
➡️ making a beak with wool and glue
➡️ making feathers and how to get them super smooth and thin
➡️ how to make functional bird feet that you can use to pose your bird
When you have made your lovebirds you will have learned the skills needed to make bird feet using wire, wrapping wire in wool and sculpting a beak using wool and PVA glue. You will also appreciate the value of making a solid core to your 3D projects and have learned how to create thin pieces of felt to make individual feathers.
If you find making bird feet tricky, you can always attach a piece of embroidery thread through the lovebird's head and display it as a hanging ornament.
In your pack you will find the following materials:
Corridale tutti-frutti melanges in Peach Melba, Lemon & Lime and Bilberry Pie (10g each) Austrian Bergschaf melange in Dotterblume (10g)
New Zealand wool in Caipirinha (10g)
Corridale wool in Graphite (2.5g)
Corridale batting (core wool) (20g x 2)
4 lengths of wire for the feet.
A template sheet to guide you with the shapes and sizes
There is plenty of wool to mix and match the colours as you choose, so you can use the same colour combinations as I have in the photos or you can create your own colour combinations!
If you have spare core wool at home, I'm sure you will be able to make more than two lovebirds so you can create a little flock of them! (you'll just need some additional core wool and you can felt the eyes and have your bird as a hanging ornament without feet)
PLEASE NOTE : there are NO felting needles or rice sack in this supply pack.
These are available separately.
Colours in your pack may vary to the ones shown but will be similar.
Who is the needle felting kit suitable for?
Suitable for more confident beginners and those who are needle felters already and who want to learn and develop their skills.
Each lovebird has it's own character and because they are all individually made, they are all unique and original which is what makes them so much fun to make!
Are there any special requirements?
Good eye sight and somewhere comfortable to work is beneficial.
A cup of tea also helps somewhat...
You will also need the following tools/equipment
Felting needles and a mat to felt on
Sharp scissors and a felt pen
Pliers to snip and bend the wire
An awl or pokey thing to make a hole to insert the bird's legs
Sewing pins to help keep your bird symmetrical whilst working on it
How long will it take to make?
Allow around 4 to 5 hours to make one lovebird plus time to allow the glue to dry.
The step by step lesson style tutorial will enable you to easily pick up from where you left off if you prefer to spend a few days making your lovebird.
Children aged 11+ can needle felt with supervision from an adult due to the nature of the barbed needles being quite sore should you accidentially poke your finger with one.
These are NOT toys, they are decorative ornaments.
Keep away from pets too!
